(The following blood-spattered scroll was found near the corpse of Sylvaenor, a Blood Elf Mage discovered in the jungle near Gurubashi Arena by Naruvik, a Blood Elf Priest who happened to be passing by.)
I walked into the Salty Sailor Tavern and cast a furtive glance around the main floor, absently inspecting the denizens. I espied a drunken Orc male intensely debating the heroism of Thrall with an Undead female who looked like she wanted to return to a dead state because of his ongoing talk, a couple of humans who were resting their heads upon the bar, and a Gnome yelling something or another at the barkeep... you know, the usual.
As I stepped further into the tavern, my glance came to rest upon a figure (I could not determine its gender, as it was clad head-to-toe in chain mail) that was straddling a chair. One of its hands was holding a half-eaten drumstick, while the other held a sharp dagger, which it used to pick at its teeth. Beside this individual, a wind serpent patiently hovered, its tail flickering against the floor. Seeing as how this was the most interesting sight in the tavern, I decided I would approach it....
Before I could even blink, the figure leapt out of its chair with the grace of a Ghostclaw Ravager, one of its knees connecting with my groin, knocking the wind out of me and propelling me backwards onto the floor in one pernicious blow. To my surprise, it owned not one, but two daggers, which it pressed into my throat while that knee held its position in my groin. It was now that I could determine it was not only a Blood Elf, like myself, but a female at that.. and her frozen peridot eyes narrowed in sheer murderous contempt at me as her face stood but a mere fraction of an inch from mine. It was then she spoke, her voice as gruff as any Orc male's and as deep besides, "What do YOU want?"
Trembling with terror, I stammered, "I- I... s...saw.. saw y..you.. s..sit..sitting.. a..and.. I... I.. w... want... wanted.. t- to.. mmmm...make... yyyyyy.... yo....your... acccccc... acqua... acquaintance!" The only movement she made was to spit in my face. "I... I... ssssss....seeeeeeeeee.... yyyyy....you... are... a.... Bbbbbbbbbb.... Bbbbbb... Blooooooood..... Blood Elf... sssssss.... ssssss... sooooooooo.... am I." (I thought perhaps this knowledge might put her a bit at ease.) "I see perfectly well what you are," she snarled, and added, "Do you think I CARE?"
At this moment, a Tauren approached us and said to the female, who he apparently seemed to know, "Kam, he's not worth your time. Besides, you know how Nixxrax gets when you mess up the
place...." She grunted at the Tauren, and added, "Yeah, cost me a hundred gold last time." The Tauren asked, "What'd this one do?" She replied, "Came near me," and slowly unfurled herself
from atop me, all the while keeping her sharp gaze (and those daggers) poised on my position.
She slithered back down into her chair, the Tauren sitting beside her. "Take a seat, Blood Elf. I'll protect you from her." My bruised body crawled across the floor and threw itself into the chair next to the Tauren, who was busy ordering flagons of mead for everyone.
"Blood Elf, I'm Equris, and that," he pointed to the Blood Elf female who only moments before was about to slit my throat, "is Kameshvari, or Kam, as I call her." Given that this Equris fellow seemed safe enough, I replied between coughs, "I am known as Sylvaenor." Equris turned to Kameshvari and said, "You know, I've known you all this time and yet, I don't know the story of
where you come from. You know MINE...." She put down her mead and grunted, then snarled, "Don't like talkin' 'bout myself." "Oh, come on, Kam! I'll make it worth your while!" He produced a large sack and placed it on the table. "Three hundred gold plus some gems." She opened it and peered inside. "FINE! But HE gets my personal attentions in the end." Equris nodded slowly and stared at me, as did the rest of the conscious denizens of the tavern. Seeing as how Kameshvari wasn't hard to look at, I thought myself quite lucky indeed!
Before she began, she yelled, her voice as hard as steel, "ANY of you interrupt me, an' you KNOW what I'll do to you!" With that, a silence fell upon the tavern.
"Grew up in Silvermoon. Yea, that's right. Right IN Silvermoon. My parents are Mages. I ain't tellin' you their names. That Blood Elf might try lookin' 'em up. Got five brothers, all older than me. Two make their way as Mages, two as Priests, an' one as a Warlock. Magical, all of 'em. 'Cept me. Don't see no need for magic.
Ma was damn happy when I came round in the world. Thought she finally had a little lady like herself. I saw different. Was always beatin' up my brothers an' goin' round in trousers. Sissy
boys my brothers were an' are. Sissy boys in their dresses! ROBES, they call 'em. Dresses, I say! My oldest brother is eight years older'n me an' I could always beat the piss outta him.
Never had no time for bein' ladylike an' I never saw no need for it neither.
Ma an' Pa had magic learnin' for us all. My brothers were good at it an' they loved it. I had no head for magic. Couldn't do no spells to save my life an' it was damn borin'! Wasn' long 'fore I was skippin' out and' runnin' off into Eversong Woods. Loved the woods. Felt at home there an' it was so full of life an' excitin'! Wasn't long 'fore I found out I had a way with the animals too. Could sense 'em and learn from 'em. They gave me learnin' no Blood Elf could. Learned to survive an' be stronger than even I knew I could be. Came to see the animals as my friends an' equals in one way but also as vittles, same as 'em. An' Ma 'an Pa never said nothin' when I came home with good eatin'.
Sure I ain't so well-spoken as my brothers or my Ma an' Pa, but the animals don't care none an' neither does the woods or the jungles. Ma an' Pa weren't none too happy 'bout it all, let me tell you! I was still a youngin' when I ran away an' made the woods my home for a long time, but the animals helped me keep on learnin'. Livin' wild was great! I saw more of Eversong Woods as a youngin' than most do an' I never had to spend no time in no stuffy school or become no magic addict.
Then one day, a Silvermoon City Guardian saw me runnin' with some Springpaws an' took me kickin' and screamin' to Sunstrider Isle. Said I could be somethin' called a hunter. Turned out not to
be so bad cuz they use lots of the learnin' I already had but I got to learn to make it better from the trainers. An' I got clothin' an' weapons too! Hadn't worn clothin' in a long time and I learned I was damn good with weapons. Had been usin' my fists when I was livin' wild. Found out I like daggers an' learned to shoot a bow, but I don't like shootin' bow so much so I don't use it often. I like fightin' up close an' personal like much better.
Then I learned I could tame animals an' have 'em fight with me. Never had to do that 'fore, but I did it with a Dragonhawk an' it was fun. Got a thing for creatures that fly. That's why I got my wind serpent, Shivah. Sure is better havin' a friend along for the ride fightin' by your side I say. Some hunters use their friends to do the fightin' for 'em. Not me. Animals are equals so I fight right by the side of mine. An' I learned minin' an' skinnin' to make me some money. Not so bad livin' off the land like that.
I ain't too fond of peoplefolk. Don't matter what kind you are neither. I like animals cuz they don't take to no pretense or lies but peoplefolk do. Don't be comin' too close to me cuz maybe that be the last thing you do in your life! An' I don't care none for this Horde or Alliance business neither. Animals don't care none an' the woods don't care none so why should I?
I love fightin' cuz I'm strong an' I like to show off. 'Sides, it's survival of the fittest out there an' I ain't no unfit one. I been a fightin' an' survivin' my whole life an' I ain't gonna stop now! I see the world as one big woods and in the woods that's how life is. An' I don't like talkin' 'bout myself neither."
She stopped and glared at Equris, gulping down her mead. "Satisfied?" The Tauren nodded, and replied, "Thank you, Kam. Happy hunting." With that, he arose from his seat and headed toward the exit, patting me on the back as he did so. "Sylvaenor, let's go," rasped Kameshvari. "Shivah's gettin' restless an' so am I." She stood from her chair and made some sort of hissing sound at her wind serpent, who replied with a similar sound and the pair exited. Remembering that I was to receive her personal attention, I jumped excitedly out of my seat and ambled after her.
(It was here that the text of the scroll ended. As Naruvik surveyed the corpse, he could see that it had been stripped of all clothing and weaponry, the flesh was burnt from lighting breath, the head of the victim was lying a few feet from the body, which was vivisected, and a few 'key' male organs were missing, their location unknown, but it was obvious to Naruvik that they had been sliced off.)
